What kind of designer would I be if I didn’t constantly evolve with the times? The state of the world is new for all of us as we struggle to find our new normal. At this time Designer Clothing has a bit of a back burner feeling to it, but I still wanted to find new ways to reach out to my style conscious mamas. This led to my new mask collection. I have been creating these for months now and have started assembling a bit of team so that my work can get to my clients a lot quicker. With that I present you with kayleychampagne.com!
Masks are our main focus right now and will be for awhile. I am pregnant with our second baby (Yeah man!) so I don’t want to promise something I cannot come through on. Eventually this will shift to a focus in other areas like accessories, as well as a couple of other ideas I am excited to share in due time!
For now, I hope this newest post finds you as well as can be in these uncertain times, and that you all stay healthy and safe out there.

There are three important things all moms should keep in mind when shopping, (lists of what you have and what you need in hand!), and I have outlined them below. In addition to this I am constantly asked where I shop, so I have included a short list of stores as a suggestion of where to find items that follow these guidelines.
Stores to Consider
Nordstrom Rack – This is one of my favorite stores to shop in when we are travelling to the US. I always seem to find good deals, and I am less likely to see other people wearing the same thing.
Saks off Fifth – This is another favorite of mine when shopping close to home. Both Nordstrom’s Rack and Saks off Fifth allow me the opportunity to buy nicer things with a steep discount. (Especially if you take the time to raid the sale and clearance sections!) This lets me stay true to my sense of style while not breaking the bank on clothes my baby is definitely going to make a mess of.
The Bay – I love The Bay!! It has been a constant go to for me in all kinds of phases of my life due to the different price points and broad variety of available brands and designers. There is literally something here for everyone! They have a really extensive website as well which makes for great online shopping.
Walmart – Believe it or not, a few moms I follow on Instagram have been buying some really cute pieces at Walmart! I have never really had much luck here myself (I have long legs, AND a long torso so I am harder to dress), but I thought it might be worth mentioning. Style doesn’t always have to cost a fortune! If you happen to be in the USA, a great alternative to Walmart is Target. I know Canadians go crazy for American Target. I believe Canadians can now order off of Target’s website, but I am not sure what shipping and the return policy look like.
I am sure there are many more places that are missing from this list, but I find a department store eliminates my need to wander the mall endlessly in search of something. I don’t have a lot of time for shopping these days so buying everything in one place is more suitable for my current lifestyle.

]]>So for real, the step is go shopping! Also for real, is this toy shopping cart on loan to us. The batteries are dying in it and for some reason all that it says (in a British accent) is “English! Let’s go shopping!” Lol!! I have no idea why this is or where this toy originated from but it cracks me up every time my baby plays with it.
It’s time to take everything you have made note of in the previous step and put it to good use. You should now know what gaps you need to fill in your cluster(s), flattering colors for your skin tone, and approximate sizes. You should also have that goal from step one in mind to make appropriate decisions.
I have written about this before but it’s crucial to remember the size on the tag does not measure your self worth! Do not get discouraged by that tag. I honestly cannot wait until Amazon Prime Wardrobe increases its selections substantially for Canadians, as this would work quite nicely into this step! If you do plan to shop online, arm yourself with your most accurate measurements, and make sure you look at the sizing charts. Much like the brick and mortar stores, sizing is NOT standardized. You may be a size 10 in some brands and a 6 in others, it is really that far off the mark. Your biggest investment should be in the cluster you wear the most, and on pieces you reach for the most. If you find yourself grabbing jeans and a blazer the most often, look into buying higher quality as they will last longer. Buying something that you feel awesome in every time you wear it is considered a form of self love. When in doubt do the shopping math. Sometimes a $20 item that you’ve worn twice costs more in the long run compared to a $50 item you’ve worn 10 times.
Lastly for this step I would like to encourage shopping second hand. Fast Fashion is the #2 polluter in the world next to oil and gas. Olivia Wilde is the latest celebrity to be dipping her toe into second hand clothing via her “Choose Used” clothing collaboration with fashion resale site ThredUp. Do your part if you can and shop second hand, consignment, or even do clothing swaps with your friends! I have yet to do a clothing swap myself, but I have been known to shop second hand from time to time.

]]>o I have been thinking a lot about what my next post should be about. I keep a list in my phone of ideas and topics I would like to discuss. There is one idea however that just keeps popping into my head as it hovers near the beginning of said list. The item on the list says ‘red lipstick lady’. I often go makeup free but whenever I want to feel a bit more confident and add a punch to my look, I put on red lipstick. Every time I do this, I briefly think about something I came across many moons ago.
Years ago I read an article (I thought it was in one of my teen magazines but I can’t be certain), about a young woman that wore red lip stick right before her mastectomy and subsequent treatments. That story has stuck with me for years so I decided to do a little research to see if I could find it. Low and behold she has written a book about this very thing called ‘Why I Wore Lipstick to my Mastectomy’, and there was also a TV movie made about it! This inspiring warrior is Geralyn Lucas and I highly encourage you to look her up. I really want to get my hands on this book and devour it as I know it will be a good read.
Based on other articles I’ve read about her book so far, she employs a number of makeup and wardrobe choices to represent something to herself. It is like the concept of smile for a minute if you are unhappy and you will trick your brain into being happy. She didn’t wear red lip stick, stilettos and short skirts for anyone but herself and how it made her feel. She was determined to reinvent herself, and become the woman she always wanted to be. For her it was about femininity and fearlessness.
Now I certainly don’t wish a cancer diagnosis on anyone but I am almost positive Ms. Lucas wrote this book to inspire others. Her story has inspired me and has become a constant little influential nugget all of these years later. That’s pretty powerful stuff if you ask me.
I don’t have a story as inspirational as Geralyn Lucas, but I hope to one day be even half as inspiring to others as she has to me.
